Creator and award-winning filmmaker and writer Kevin B. Ploth is building momentum at a fast pace for The Giant. The TV Series is known to blend psychological drama, mystery, and character-driven storytelling into a world designed to keep audiences invested long after the credits roll.
Currently in development with proof-of-concept filming underway, The Giant has already begun attracting attention for its expanding cast, layered narrative structure, and Kevin’s deeply personal approach to filmmaking. The series follows a towering sheriff known only as “The Giant,” a quiet yet commanding lawman struggling with internal demons while protecting a diverse community through what Ploth describes as a “tall, dark, silent-type approach.”
During a recent interview, Kevin Ploth opened up about the emotional weight behind the project, the realities of independent filmmaking, and why authenticity remains at the center of everything he creates.
Building a Story Beyond Traditional Television

For Kevin, The Giant is more than a standard television series. He views the project as a long-term storytelling universe designed to evolve across multiple seasons and formats.
“I want to give them something that takes like Twin Peaks and kind of blends it all together,” Kevin explained. “I don’t like to give everything away. I want the audience to earn that.”
That philosophy is reflected in the structure of the show itself. Rather than relying entirely on explosive moments or shock value, Kevin said he prefers slow-building tension, emotional mystery, and layered character arcs that reveal themselves over time.
“We begin where we end, and where we begin,” he said while discussing the show’s deeper themes and cyclical storytelling style inspired partly by philosophical and spiritual concepts.
The creator noted that audiences will gradually uncover the deeper motivations and histories surrounding the characters as the series unfolds season by season.
“You have to watch the other seasons to find out,” Kevin said. “What’s his backstory? Why is he doing this? There’s a lot there.”
A Personal Journey Behind the Camera

Although The Giant continues gaining momentum, Kevin admitted the process of bringing the project to life has challenged him emotionally and creatively.“I think it’s brought out the best and the worst of me in some ways,” he shared candidly. “I’m really putting everything out there.” The filmmaker explained that rejection, budget struggles, and the pressures of independent production have tested both his patience and resilience. Still, he remains committed to protecting the integrity of the project and the people involved in it. “I’m not going to compromise what I’ve built and put together,” he said. Kevin B. Ploth also credited much of his leadership style to his military background and family history of service, saying those experiences shaped how he approaches filmmaking, organization, and collaboration.“You need a real person that understands logistics and time,” he explained. “I don’t like my time wasted, and I don’t like your time wasted.” That discipline, according to Kevin Ploth, has helped streamline production while keeping cast and crew focused on the larger vision.
Loyalty, Collaboration, and Casting the Right People

One of the recurring themes throughout Kevin Ploth’s discussion was the importance of loyalty and teamwork. While many productions experience constant turnover, he emphasized that several members of The Giant have remained committed since the project’s earliest stages nearly two years ago.
“That says a lot about my leadership and what I’ve written,” he said. However, Kevin repeatedly expressed hat the project’s success is not built around one individual.
“There’s no me without the we,” he explained, while praising collaborators Vanessa Thorpe, Meredith, and other key members of the production team for helping strengthen the scripts and overall structure of the series.
Casting for the project has also been highly intentional. Rather than selecting celebrity names alone, Kevin said he focused on finding performers he trusted personally and creatively.
“A lot of it was based on because I knew them, I’ve worked with them over the years, and I respected them,” he explained.
Among the growing cast are Sunny Leone, Jake Busey, Jeremy Miller, John Savage, and Tuesday Knight!

Finding Meaning Beyond Awards

Despite receiving recognition throughout his career, Kevin Ploth said awards have never been his primary motivation as a filmmaker.“Awards and medals have never really been a driving motivation for me,” he explained. “They’re nice. It’s nice to have that validation or acknowledgment.” Instead, he said the greatest fulfillment comes from collaboration, meaningful conversations, and creating opportunities for others involved in the project. “What I really like more is interviews like this,” he said. “Because I get to talk about the other people that helped get me here.” For Kevin, storytelling itself remains one of humanity’s most powerful tools.“We’re always telling stories,” he reflected. “Stories are who we are. It tells us where we’re coming from, where we’re going, and what we desire.”
Expanding the Future of The Giant

While production on the series continues moving forward, Kevin confirmed that the world of The Giant is already expanding into additional formats beyond television.
“The project has a whole life,” he said. “It’s designed to have spin-offs.”
Among the upcoming developments is a companion comic book project currently in the works, along with additional creative partnerships and promotional efforts tied to the growing franchise.
Even with the increasing scale of the production, Kevin Ploth remains focused on preserving the heart of the story and the collaborative spirit that brought it to life in the first place.
“The biggest reward,” he shared, “is being able to have my children work on set with me.”
