Emmy-Nominated Filmmakers Adria Dawn and David Tarleton Screening New Film Spiral

Tarleton/Dawn Productions exclusive screening their latest social change film, Spiral, with an exclusive screening at Shemin Auditorium in the Shaffer Art Building at Syracuse University on September 19, 2025. The film, which centers on mental health among college students, marks a new milestone for filmmakers Adria Dawn and David Tarleton, whose body of work addresses urgent social issues. Spiral explores the mental health challenges faced by college students, following one student’s journey as she takes on the pressure and stress of academic life, ultimately making the difficult decision to prioritize her well-being and recovery.

Adria Dawn & David Tarleton: Award-Winning Filmmakers

Adria Dawn, an Emmy-nominated director and actor, has built a reputation for exploring themes of inclusion, identity, and social justice in her films. Previous projects like Karen and Gray Area earned her multiple Telly Awards and an Emmy nomination for Kids Matter. As an educator at Syracuse University, she teaches on-camera acting and filmmaking for social change.

David Tarleton, an Emmy-nominated producer and director, has worked on projects for major studios such as Sony Pictures, Disney, and Apple TV+. Together, Adria and David have been making films for over 25 years, using their work to spark important conversations about societal issues.

Filming in Syracuse and Student Collaboration

Filming for Spiral took place over six days at three locations in and around Syracuse, NY. The production also involved Syracuse University students, who worked in various crew positions, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the authenticity of the film.The film’s creative team included longtime collaborators Andrew M. Edwards (composer) and Sarah Pace (wardrobe supervisor), who added their expertise to the project.
