No One Bleeds Alone: BLEED Film Fundraising Campaign Officially Launches Today!

#FirstPeriod Campaign Invites Global Support for Groundbreaking Film Addressing Menstruation Through Powerful, Visual Storytellinghttps://seedandspark.com/fund/bleed?utm_source=Email_referral&utm_medium=social

Today marks the launch of the much-anticipated crowdfunding campaign for BLEED, a groundbreaking film that explores the universal yet often overlooked experience of menstruation. With a vision to normalize menstruation and spark meaningful conversations around period equity, BLEED is an ambitious, dialogue-free drama that follows 12-year-old Mary on a surreal time-bending quest to find a sanitary pad after her first period begins. The film is a striking metaphor for the physical and emotional intensity of menstruation, bringing an often-silent issue to the forefront in a unique and evocative way. BLEED is directed by Kelly Lynn Krause, written by Kaia Alexander, and produced by Luna Zhang.

A Universal Story Told

Over 2 billion menstruators around the world share one fundamental experience: their first period. Yet, despite its universality, this milestone event is often brushed aside or overlooked. BLEED aims to change that by offering an unforgettable, silent portrayal of this pivotal moment. Without a single line of dialogue, the film’s stunning visuals and immersive sound design speak volumes, allowing the audience to connect with the story on a visceral, emotional level.

The film follows Mary as she literally runs through decades of her life—starting at age 12, into her 30s, and eventually her mid-50s—reflecting the evolving relationship that many menstruators have with their bodies throughout their lives. From the rush of her first period in 7th grade to the challenges she faces as an adult, BLEED transcends language, offering a cinematic experience that is accessible to a global audience.

“Everyone remembers their first period—the confusion, the shame, the trauma. It’s a universal experience that’s almost never spoken about,” says writer and creator Kaia Alexander. “BLEED is our answer to bringing those emotions to the surface, to help normalize menstruation and remind people that no one bleeds alone.”

Challenging Stigma, Promoting Equity, and Sustainability

With BLEED, the team behind the film is not only telling a personal story but also addressing the wider societal issues that affect menstruators, from period poverty to sustainability. Each year, approximately 100 billion single-use menstrual products end up in landfills, contributing to environmental harm. Furthermore, a staggering 1 in 4 students in the U.S. misses school due to lack of access to menstrual products, and more than half of menstruators face period poverty, with BIPOC households being the most vulnerable.

Empowering Women and Creators

BLEED is a project driven by a diverse team with extensive experience across the entertainment industry. The creative team, based in the California Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego, has collectively worked on over 300 feature films, TV series, and shorts, including major productions like Spider-Man 2, Crip Camp, American Experience, and Marvel’s Runaways. With such expertise, the team is ready to tackle the ambitious scope of the project, blending cutting-edge visual storytelling with a rich soundscape that blends electronic and orchestral music, reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
