True-crime fascination moves from the microphone into dangerous territory in Gumshoe Gals, a 90-minute feature centered on two podcasters who unexpectedly find themselves becoming part of the type of investigation they would normally cover.a
Directed by the multi-talented Rebecca Tarabocchia and written by Ryan Willer, Gumshoe Gals follows two true-crime podcasters who are hired by an independent filmmaker to star in a live documentary chronicling the hunt for and unveiling of a serial killer. What begins as an unusual opportunity quickly places them much closer to the mystery and its potential consequences.
Rebecca also stars as Bobbi Henlington alongside Martha Ruby Clark as Drew Henlington and Colleen Ann Bowling as Lorraine. The cast includes John O’Brien as Danny, Shannon Gibbs as Marlene, and Liam Fountain as Billy, bringing together an ensemble at the center of the film’s increasingly complicated mystery.
A True-Crime Mystery That Builds Toward a Major Reveal
At the center of Gumshoe Gals is the search for the mysterious Limb Collector, with the investigation building toward the eventual discovery of the killer’s identity. For Rebecca, one of the most memorable experiences of the production came when the cast and crew finally reached that pivotal sequence.
“One of our favorite scenes to film, and I think I can speak for the whole cast and crew on this, was definitely the scene when we finally find out who the Limb Collector is. There is action, drama, and love all happening at the same time,” she explained, adding that the scene “really takes you on a journey.”
That excitement was also felt behind the camera. Rebecca said the sequence had been highly anticipated during production, with everyone looking forward to the moment when they would finally bring such an important part of the story to life.
Family and Friendship Beneath the Mystery
While the hunt for a serial killer drives the film’s suspense, Rebecca hopes audiences also connect with what exists underneath the mystery.
“One of the biggest messages we hope audiences take away is the importance of family and friendship,” Rebecca said.
For her, those relationships are tested most clearly when circumstances become difficult. She explained that regardless of “how tough or crazy the situation is,” genuine family and friendship endure, with people fighting through challenges together and ultimately becoming stronger because of them.
That theme gives Gumshoe Gals another dimension beyond uncovering the identity of a killer. The investigation may provide the central mystery, but the relationships between the characters give the story its emotional stakes.
Rebecca Shares Her Favorite Part Making The Film:
The sense of connection within the film was also present during production. Rebecca recalled that some of the best moments happened away from the scripted action, particularly between takes.
“One of the most fun parts of being on set was honestly how much everyone enjoyed making the movie,” she shared.
Despite working with a relatively small team, Rebecca described the cast and crew as “incredibly dedicated.” There were plenty of moments of laughter between takes, creating an environment where the people involved could enjoy the process even while working through the film’s darker subject matter.
“It really felt like everyone was putting their heart into the project,”

With its true-crime premise, the mystery surrounding the Limb Collector, and an ensemble led by Rebecca Tarabocchia and Martha Ruby Clark, Gumshoe Gals turns the familiar world of crime podcasts into something far more immediate. Instead of discussing a case from a distance, its characters are pulled directly into the hunt—and toward a revelation that changes everything.
