Actor and producer John Campanile is taking his award-winning independent film work to the next level, with a feature-length adaptation of Between Left and Right and a new gangster series already in development.
John Campanile has spent years building his career in front of and behind the camera, and now the Chicago-based actor and producer is preparing for one of his most ambitious chapters yet.
Campanile is working with his creative team — Italian writer/director Simone Terranova, Eliana Manvati, and new team member EP/Actor John Castilla — on a feature film based on their multi-award-winning short film, Between Left and Right.
The feature is planned to be filmed in Italy and Chicago, bringing together the Italian and Chicago connections that have played an important role throughout Campanile’s life and career.
From Award-Winning Short to Feature Film
Between Left and Right is a drama short set in the heart of bustling Chicago. The story follows Italian-American siblings John and Ely, who find themselves locked in a desperate battle against a ruthless healthcare system.
The short film has built an impressive festival record, earning 16+ wins and 1 nomination across international film festivals.
Among the film’s recognition are awards for acting, directing, producing, cinematography and the film itself. He received multiple honors for his work as both an actor and producer, while Terranova and Manvati have also received significant recognition for their contributions to the project.
John Campanile was honored with a Best Producer award at the Reale Film Festival and received a Platinum Award for Best Actor at the Best Actor & Director Awards. He was also recognized with an October Award for Best Actor at the London Indie Film Festival.
Manvati received recognition including Best Actress in a Short Film, Best Actress in a Drama, and an award for Best Acting Duo alongside Campanile at the World Film Festival in Cannes. Terranova’s recognition includes multiple directing honors, including awards for Best Directing, Best Director of a Drama Film, and Best Director.
The film’s success has helped establish Between Left and Right as an important project for the team and has now opened the door to an even larger story. John Campanile says the feature adaptation is currently being developed with the goal of filming in both Italy and Chicago, creating an international production while remaining rooted in the city’s atmosphere and characters.

Italy, Chicago and the Next Chapter
John Campanile’s connection to both Italy and Chicago is particularly meaningful to the upcoming projects.
Born in Chicago, he moved to Italy with his family when he was one and a half years old and remained there until he was almost 21. He returned to Chicago in 1993, where he has remained ever since.
That connection between the two cultures is now reflected in his filmmaking ambitions.
With Between Left and Right moving toward a feature adaptation, a new eight-episode gangster series in development, and additional work in acting and fashion on the horizon, His focus is firmly on creating new opportunities both in front of and behind the camera.
And with Chicago and Italy serving as two of the central locations for what comes next, the story is only beginning.
